A Memorable Miss Latina Central Florida “Jessica Rivera”

Good Morning my fashion world!

This week I’ve been introducing you to new faces in the fashion industry. Well, I’m very excited to introduce this beautiful woman to you today. Modeling is one of her passions and she works hard every minute to live her dream. She’s been in numerous fashion shows and events including being featured in the 2008 Fashion Designers Expo Florida.

Today I introduce to you Miss Jessica Rivera!

JessR

Jessica’s Biography

Jessica Rivera developed her modeling ambition in her teenage years. Undaunted after rejections from the prestigious agencies like Elite, IMG and Wilhelmina, Jessica pursued her dream. Her perseverance has paid off with participation in multiple fashion shows working with the new high end House of Fashions and designers including Kimajé Kreations, Ed Hardy, Cecila Perez, Perfect Wedding Guide, Macy’s/Victoria Bridals, David Bridals, Carolyn’s House of Fashion and Yasser Farraco. Jessica also earned the privilege to participate in New York Fashion Week with top designers Denimaxx, Lourdes Libman, and Lily Samii. This is when Jessica gained recognition for her signature “fierce” walk.

In her short modeling career Jessica has already achieved a number of her modeling goals. One of her coveted targets in life has been to appear in print media. You can see Jessica in two top magazines in Brevard County, Florida. One is Make Me Up – Editor and Chief Lorrie Pearson and the other is Space Coast Living for Barbarella Bridal Shop Dec/Jan 08 issue. She was also honored with the title of Miss Latina Central Florida, where she proudly represented her Hispanic heritage in the Miss Latina Pageant in October of 2007.

What keeps her going is her passion, drive and dedication to the industry. Jessica sees herself as an equal in any other model, but affirms what makes her unique is her personality and her insatiable ambition to continue to realize her goals in the industry. With much determination, she is set out to fulfill all of her goals in the Fashion Industry. In the coming years and months you can expect to see more of Miss Jessica Rivera…a lot more.

It’s exciting to read about all her achievements thus far, isn’t it! Jessica is an inspiration to all emerging models worldwide.

Designers! Never give up!

Good morning my fashion world!

I’ve come across many designers who have tried for years to get their collection off the ground but they have given up because times got hard.  This baffles me a little bit because if this was your passion (like many designers express) then why are you quitting.  You began because…

1)  There is design creativity welling up in your soul that you must express through a collection

2)  You are willing to invest your time, talent, and money (of what you didn’t have before) to begin

3)  You desire to show the world your unique creativity

If you’re a designer, you most likely fall into one of those categories, if not all.  So if this is true, then how can you give up?  Listen designers, times will get hard.  Not everyone has money like the Simmons Sisters (Vanessa and Angela) who can just wake up one day and say, “I want a shoe line”, and it just happens because they have an IN into the fashion world already; although Pastry is a creatively awesome line.    BUT that doesn’t mean that we cannot make it to the top starting from scratch!

Here a few tips!

1)  Use your time, money, and talent wisely.  Your time is very valuable now that you are ready to start your collection.  You have to balance your time between sewing, marketing, and hustling; not to mention balancing family and friends.  Let your mindset change from “spending money” to “investing money”.  Every time you buy something, look at it as an investment.  If you buy $200 worth of fast food weekly, then maybe you’re not investing your money wisely.  Cut back on extra spending (eat home cooked meals) so that you’ll have more money to invest in fabric, supplies, and marketing.

2)  Make the big decisions early about your collection.  How do you want it to be sold?  Decide if it will be mass produced or will you only make individual couture pieces.  Will it be sold as 4 seasonal collections per year or twice a year?  What will your price range be like?  That will determine where you sell and who you sell to.  And last but not least,  decide what your budget looks like.  Make sure to create a budget early.  Allot yourself a certain amount for fabric and supplies, a certain amount for marketing, and a misc. amount for those extra things you see that are a “must have”.Laughing

3)  Be determined, focused, and disciplined!  This is key in order to achieve success.  Understand that determination is a must.  There will be hard times and you will hear “NO” a lot, but a true designer will not let it stop them.  Just remember that no one can feel what you experience in your soul every time you design something!  Be focused. When you’re focused on what you want your collection to look like, feel like, and be like, then you won’t get distracted with other things.  Your decisions will be easier to make.  If you design formal gowns, then maybe you shouldn’t waste too much time in swimwear stores.  You’d study you’re idea.  You’d perfect your craft.  You’d study your competition.  You’d know who Valentino was.  SIDE BAR:  Have you ever met an emerging formal wear  designer who didn’t know who Vera Wang was!?!  How embarrassing!  Come on emerging designers, let’s do better than that.  Finally, be disciplined.  This goes hand and hand with number 1.  Spend your time, talent, and money wisely.  If you have to walk the streets with your collection in a suitcase and go into different boutiques and speak to their Buyers, then that’s what you gotta do.  Make the time to do it!

4)  Register for Emerging Designers Fashion Week, Fashion Designers Expo Florida.   This is a great way to get your collection out there!  Registration is affordable and the networking is absolutely amazing!  It’s the perfect start!

Designers, let’s not let anything stop us.  I’ve given you the basic tools you need to relentlessly bring your collection to life.

Study hard. Design hard. Market hard.

Fashion Pollution!

Good Morning my Fashion World!

One of my pet peeves is going to a fashion show and seeing the same exact designs walk down the runway show after show!  What’s that about?  Designers, lets embrace our creativity.  Let’s perfect our craft.

If designing is our passion, let’s focus on perfecting what we do.  If we must attend classes then let us swalllow our pride and do so.  Emerging designers often wonder why they haven’t been discovered yet or why no one is paying them any attention.  Maybe it’s because you’re focusing on the wrong thing.  Instead of trying to design like the great “V” designers, Valentino, Versace, and Vera Wang, how about we try to just be ourselves!

Design like YOU want to design.  Create the pattern that sparks life in your soul.  When you design, let no one have the opportunity to say, “Oh, I’ve seen that before.”  No way!  Designers, let’s birth a new flavor of style.

Let’s call it, YOUR FLAVOR!

Check out some of the designers I know that understand what I’m talking about!
